Roles control what each team member can see and do. FeatureShark ships with built-in roles and supports granular custom permissions.

Built-in roles

FeatureShark ships with three role presets:

Admin — full product access across all modules.
Manager — broad access to manage content and conversations.
Publisher — focused on publishing (changelog, help center, etc.).

Workspace owners are marked separately (not as a role) and control billing and member management.

How permissions work

FeatureShark has granular permissions (for example "view feedback", "edit feedback", "invite members"). A role is a set of these permissions. A member can only do what their role's permissions allow.

Creating a custom role

In the sidebar, go to Team → Roles.
Click Create Role.
Give the role a name.
Select the permissions to grant.
Save.

Assigning a role

Assign a role when inviting a member.
Change a member's role from the Team page.

Typical role setups

Support rep — feedback view/edit, support inbox, saved replies.
Product manager — feedback, roadmap, changelog, analytics.
Marketing — changelog, help center, analytics (read-only).

Managing roles

Edit a role's permissions at any time; members using that role update automatically.
Delete a role that's no longer used. Assign affected members a new role first.

Tip: Use the principle of least privilege — give members only the permissions they need for their job.
